Hopefully a very simple matter...

Let's say I have a validation list in cell A1. All I want is for the cell
(A1) to have a default message in it all the time (for example, "<Click Here
to Make Selection"), and for the down pointing arrow of the list to always
be showing.

Is this possible?

Why not just insert a new row 1 and put those instructions in A1 so that they
point at A2?

Sorry - don't have the luxury of the space to do so on the actual report I'm
developing.

Wow. It's too bad you're using all 64k rows (or 1m rows in xl2007).

I don't know a way of doing what you want.
