Default Sheet formatting after pivoting

I am having trouble with the format of my pivot table...

I drag a data element down into the table and it looks fine. When I
return that element to the top, the white fill color I have applied
to
all of the cells is gone and it then shows grid lines where the table
was. I just want a white background to remain no matter how I pivot.

I tried checking the "Preserve Formatting" in the table options, but
it doesn't seem to work.

Any suggestions?

thanks,
Chris
