DATA VALIDATION - LIST - SOURCE; the entries on my "source" name is so long
that I would like it to automatically go to the first selection when I type the first letter of what I'm looking for. Is this at all possible? |

No. and Yes. Regular data validation does not provide
auto-select/auto-complete. But one solution to the issue has been provided by Debra Dalgliesh at contextures.com: http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal10.html "el zorro" wrote: DATA VALIDATION - LIST - SOURCE; the entries on my "source" name is so long that I would like it to automatically go to the first selection when I type the first letter of what I'm looking for. You can thank me for pointing you to Debra's site, she's actually the one
that made you look brilliant this time. Glad I could help. "el zorro" wrote: Awesome, you made me looked like I'm an expert. Thanks much. "JLatham" wrote: No. and Yes. If using the data validation drop down you can do this. Sort your list to
have all the entries that begin with a at the top and the b's next all the way to z. At the beginning of each letter change in the list enter a single a at the beginning of the a's, same with a b at the beginning of the b's etc. on to z. To go to the beginning of the t's for example, just type t in the drop down cell and DON'T hit enter. Click on the drop down arrow and the t list will appear. (You can hit enter after typing the letter but then you have to reselect the drop down cell, just saves a step) HTH Regards, Howard "el zorro" <el wrote in message ...
