Creating old xls worksheets.
Hi.
I don't know if this is an excel or a windows explorer problem. I want to alter the windows explorer "right click - new" menu so I can right click e.g. an empty area of my desktop, select new and from there create an old format xls document. I have altered the registry key: HKCR\.xls\Excel.Sheet.8\ShellNew\Filename so I have the option to create a "Microsoft Excel 97-2003 worksheet" in the right click menu. The problem is that when I double click my newly created xls file I get an error message from excel telling me: "The file you are trying to open <filename is in a different format..." I am running all this on a w2k3 terminal server so I can not use TweakUI from the Powertoys for Windows XP. Thanks in advance... |

It would probably be better to set the default file type in Excel so that
everytime you save a file, it would be in the format that you desire. Goto ToolsOptionsTransition then select 'Save Excel files as:' and set that to "Microsoft Excel 97-2003 worksheet" "Mattias" wrote: Hi. I don't know if this is an excel or a windows explorer problem. That is already covered using a GPO and it works. If a user creates a new
worksheet from within Excel and saves it using default settings it is saved as a xls file. The problem is that there are to many users using the "right click" way to create new worksheets. Thanks anyway... "bigwheel" skrev: It would probably be better to set the default file type in Excel so that everytime you save a file, it would be in the format that you desire.
