Default Excel Launching and not automatically starting a new workbook

Anyone know where to turn this back on? Excel is launching without starting
a new workbook. I'd like to get back to having one open automatically when I
start excel.

Tools - Options
General Tab
"Sheets in New Workbook"

That should work,

I have that option set to 1, and when I manually open a new workbook, I do
get only one worksheet in the workbook as desired, but excel still doesn't
automatically start a new workbook upon launch. It always used to and I
don't see any options for this function. Any ideas?

Joe

How are you launching Excel?

With a shortcut or by double-clicking on a file?

If by shortcut, you could check to see if you have /e appended.

i.e. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft OfficeOffice11\Excel.exe" /e

If so, delete the /e part.

If you launch by double-clicking on a file, you won't get the new blank
workbook.

Excel is launched from a shortcut to the executable.
There are no switches used in the shortcut.
it is Excel 2003 if that makes a difference.

The version should not make a difference.

Open My Computer and go to ToolsFolder OptionsFile Types.

Scroll down to XLS and select then hit "Advanced". Select "open" and "Edit"

Is the path just "C:\Program Files\Microsoft OfficeOffice11\Excel.exe" or is
there a switch appended there?

If so, delete the switch.

If no joy, use a workaround.

Open a New workbook and FileSave AsFile TypeMS Excel Template(*.xlt)

Name it BOOK and save to your XLSTART folder.

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

Note: make any customizations you wish before saving.

This should open when you start Excel by running your shortcut.
