Default keeping pasted text in one column

I am using formulas to text to column a text file to Excel. The sheet I am
using started spreading the text over 4 columns instead of leaving it all in
column A. That messes up my formulas. I could adjust the formulas but I want
to know what happend and/or how to fix it for future reference.
