Default excel

Hi all
i have this problem..

i have some old version xls files an some new version xls files..

now when i try to open an old file it just begins the excel application but
its blank..

and then i cant open either the new version xls files..

when that happens, the only way to open my excel files (new and old version)
is to open the excel and go ...file --- open and not by double clicking

any ideas??

many thanks..

Sometimes one of these works when you're having trouble with double clicking on
the file in windows explorer:

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

--- or ---

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

Maybe one of these will work for you.
