when importing data from external database does not load into wor.

I am trying to import data from an external database. When I have selected my
link and the database, on nominating a worksheet, the data does not get
loaded into the worksheet. The ODBC source name appears in the top left hand
cell. When I edit the query, I then get partial data to view but still cannot
load into my worksheet.
