Default Excel 2002: How to split text into columns ?

Dear Sir,

I have the folowing text entry at column A and would like to split it into
column B,C,D and E by eliminating the . between them.

A B C
D E
1 110201.02.HGF.0702 110201 02 HGF
0702
2 110202.03.LKJ.0254 110202 03 LKJ
0254
3 110541.06.PKL.0365 100541 06 PKL
0365

Do you have any formula that I can inout at B1 and copy down to get the
straight answer ?

Default Excel 2002: How to split text into columns ?

Okay going from memory here and it's Excel XP but this should get you there.

Focus on the concatenated string (cells B through E). In your example, this
text would be 110201.02.HGF.0702 for the first data set. Hightlight columns
B through E - making sure you have 5 empty columns to the right of them. Go
to DATA, Column Formatting, Choose Delimited, select the delimitor as "." and
hit enter. It should "bust the data apart at the "." throwing each datum
between the periods into a separate column. I think this should work. It's
always worked on single delimiters for me in the past.
