The cause could be a bit of rogue formatting. Copy from a cell which should
have the same formatting and click on <Paste Special<Formats. It would be
nice to know how something like this happens so we don't do it again but
often this takes longer than a quick fix.

Thanks for your help. I received a note from Microsoft on this and they told
me to format the comments cells to 'general' because if you use 'text' and
have a lot of characters, it won't work. I did this and it works. I had
already tried your suggestion and it did not help. I suspect the problem
lies in the fact that my comments in this particular cell were extensive.
But the 'general' formatting works fine ... so far.

Gerrie

Excel has a problem with text-formatted cells if they contain between 255 and
1024 characters.

Changing the format to General seems to ne the only way to get rid of the
##########'s

What are you putting in to that cell?

try and copy a blank cell and past specialformat in the cell you want to
change. Then re-enter your data There might be some other formatting on
that cell and this should get rid of it.

Thanks. I had gotten an email from Microsoft on this. They advised that the
cell needs to be formatted as "general" when you are trying to enter a large
amount of text. They advised 'text' formatting will not work, but 'general'
will. I used 'general' and it seems to be working. Thank you though for
your input.
