Default Defining cell name / giving multiple cells a name

I want to name cells A1:A3 to "C". Excel doesn't allow me to do this. Can
anyone please help me with this area.

I am able to name it to "A" or "B" but not "C". I am using the indirect
function to cascade my drop down list.
