Disengage function that prompts same entry from other cell
I have created a child's spelling game that uses the "if" function to tell
the user if the word spelt is correct or not. The correct spelling is in a hidden cell above the cell where the word is to be entered. When you commence typing in the word, eg "b" for "ball", excel prompts the word ball as it recognises it from the cell in the spreadsheet. I want to know if and how I can turn off this prompting |

Thanks, David. It's easy when you know how. I'm used to working with numbers
and formulas - focus has changed - child education, now that a 6 year old who needs extra curricular encouragement has entered the equation "David Biddulph" wrote: Tools/ Options/ Edit: uncheck "Enable AutoComplete for cell values" -- David Biddulph "Kruja's owner" <Kruja's wrote in message ... "spelt" is a type of wheat.
How will you know if the children have spelled a word correctly? Gord Dibben MS Excel MVP On Thu, 22 Feb 2007 05:53:15 -0800, Kruja''s owner wrote: Thanks, David. It's easy when you know how. That may depend which side of the Atlantic, Gord. Either spelt or spelled
is accepted over here. But we've got enough confusion in Excel usage over different date formats, without getting into an argument over spelling. :-) -- David Biddulph "Gord Dibben" <gorddibbATshawDOTca wrote in message ... Thanks for update David.
I look at everything from a narrow "Canuckese" view. Gord On Thu, 22 Feb 2007 17:53:43 -0000, "David Biddulph" wrote: That may depend which side of the Atlantic, Gord. Thanks, David for clarifying to Gord re "spelt".
Gord, do you really want to know how I set up excel to know if the child has 'spelt' the word correctly? Or was that your way of saying, "If you can't spell yourself, how can you check the child's spelling?"????? Kruja's Owner "Gord Dibben" wrote: Thanks for update David. It was intended as an insulting remark aimed at your spelling of the word
"spelt" and your ability to check the childrens' work. I apologize for that and have been set straight about variants in spelling and grammar internationally. In future I will attempt to refrain from making remarks of that nature. Gord On Thu, 22 Feb 2007 15:23:19 -0800, Kruja''s owner wrote: Thanks, David for clarifying to Gord re "spelt". Gord,
Cool! A bit of sacasm never hurt anyone and I'm not easily insulted, anyway. Teachers (some) have a bit to answer for these days where spelling and grammar are concerned, but I'm old school (well, perhaps not too old!) and think that there should be a greater focus on this area in our schools. We seem to be producing a lot of illiterate uni graduates. What was that about focus? Oh, yes, David was right . . . THIS is an excel forum, isn't it? Kruja's owner (he's my dog) PS Don't suppose you know where Kruja is, do you? (the place, not my dog) - without googling, that is?
