Default File Size

I have one worksheet in a spreadsheet. The file size is 373 kb. There are
no hidden columns or rows. There is no code attached to the worksheet.
There are no objects or pictures in the file.

If I copy the entire worksheet to a new workbook, the new file size is 30
kb. If I "move" the worksheet to a new workbook, the new new file size is 18
kb.

Can someone help me understand why the file size is so large?

I am using this example to try to solve the problem in a much larger
application that shows this same phenomenon on multipe worksheets.

Thanks,
Mike.

You've said there are no hidden rows or columns, but there may be
unused ones. Excel is notorious for "remembering" the last-ever used
row or column on a spreadsheet regardless of whether there is still
anything there. To see if that's the case, open the big version of the
worksheet and hit "Ctrl-end" to move the activecell to the last (sic)
cell in the worksheet. If it's substantially below the last row with
actual data (or to the right of the last column) try deleting the
unused rows or columns and re-save the workbook. It should shrink a
bit then.
