Default Dynamic Dropdown difficulties

I have successfully got the Dynamic Dropdown functionality working that
identifies what products are available with which state. Whereby the user
can select either the state or the product first and get the correct list of
the other item.

The problem that I'm having is that the products are of one of two types -
fixed or variable and that the dropdown for the fixed and variable options is
where the problem occurs.

If the user starts and selects a variable product - the system will
correctly let them know what states that product is available for sale and in
a separate dropdown provide the correct variable drop-down options.

Now the user selects a fixed product - assuming that it is avaiable for sale
in the state they have keyed in. The value in the (variable/fixed) dropdown
already has the variable value in it - and I want this value not to be there.

Can I tell Excel to do this - if so how?
