Default can't shift nonblank cells off the page error

As I try to insert columns I keep getting the error "can't shift nonblank
cells off the page." I have about 100 blank columns at the end of my spread
sheet, so I don't understand. I've tried deleteing the blank columns and
savings but still I get the error.
