Set calculation to manual: Tools--Options--Calculation--Manual
Hit F9 to force a recalculation as necessary. Dave -- Brevity is the soul of wit. "Phillip" wrote: how do I delay recalculation of specific cells within a workbook? |

recalculation in a spreadsheet
Not sure what you mean by "delay"
Normally Excel delays finally calculating a cell containing a formula until all the preceding cells have been calculated (the sequence of the cells does not matter, excel sorts it all out). And when calculation is set to automatic all the open workbooks and worksheets are recalculated. If you set calculation to Manual then the workbooks and worksheets are only calculated when you press F9. In Manual you can also calculate a single sheet at a time using Shift-F9 to recalculate just the active sheet (but if you have a lot of links between sheets be careful with this technique). You can also use VBA to calculate only specififc cells. recalculation in a spreadsheet
Thanks Charles and Dave. I think Charles is nearer the answer, if I may
further explain. I would like to leave the automatic calculation n for the rest of the work-sheet / book since there is an active web query. I then need to delay specific cells that are dependent on the query (ie =F2; where F2 is part of the query but target cell is not) from updating as soon as the query updates in order for me to be able to highlight the change. I hope there is a solution for this. Thanks all again. - Phillip "Charles Williams" wrote: Not sure what you mean by "delay" Normally Excel delays finally calculating a cell containing a formula until all the preceding cells have been calculated (the sequence of the cells does not matter, excel sorts it all out).
