This is from Paul Simon, 2004. While there is no actual way to bind a
picture to a cell there are decent workarounds. Here are two that I find most useful. 1.) Go to the cell in which you want the image. 2.) Do the menu sequence InsertComment 3.) Backspace over your name so that the Comment is now empty. 4.) Move your cursor to the border of the Comment so that the cursor turns into a 4-headed arrow. 5.) Right-click and choose Format Comment from the drop-down menu. 6.) Go to the Colors and Lines tab. 7.) In the Fill area, click the down arrow at the end of the Color field. 8.) At the bottom of the resultant dialog box, choose Fill Effects. 9.) Click the Picture tab. 10.) Click the Select Picture button. 11.) Navigate to where your picture is located, choose the picture file and click Insert. 12.) Click OK twice. 13.) With the Comment still on-screen, choose any of the handles to size the "Picture" Comment to your liking. 14.) Click off the Comment, and you will now see a red flag in the upper corner of the cell. Now, any time you hover your cell pointer over the cell, the image will appear. If you want to make any subsequent changes, right-click in the cell and choose Edit Comment, right-click on the Comment border, then choose Format Comment. Granted, the image will only appear when you hover over it, but you may find this better than a thumbnail-type scenario with images cluttering the screen. Now if you don't like that and actually want all the pictures to show all the time, here's a method that is somwhat better than the "floating effect", although the picture is still not absolutely linked to the cell. 1.) InsertPictureFrom File 2.) Browse to the image file and click Insert. 3.) Here's the important part - hold down the Alt key, and while holding it down, use the horizontal and vertical handles on the image (with your mouse) to size it to the dimensions of the single cell in which you want the image. (Using the Alt key which doing this, you'll find that the image "snaps" in place.) 4.) Right-click on the image, choose Format Picture and go to the Properties tab. 5.) Choose Move and Size With Cells and click OK. Now, as you size the column and/or row, the image will automatically resize as if it was actually "linked" to the cell. (But keep in mind that it is not truly linked and therefore either accidentally or intentionally, you can still do a click-and-drag on the image to move it off the cell.) Goodluck! |
