Default Setting up formatting for a range of cells

Im close to getting this working (based on searching other topics).

I have a several rows of cells.
If the entry in (lets say) D1 == "Do not do" then
I want the other rows (A1..E1) to be formatted in a specific way (in
this case with a strikethrough)

ALSO

I have a drop down list containing items (that come from a range).
When a person selects an entyr from that list, id like to retain the
formatting (color) from the range that list comes from.
I could do it with the Conditional Formatting, but that only allows 3
options - in this case there are 5 entries in the list.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!
