Removing leading zero from cent amounts

I am receiving a zero in front of the decimal point when I enter a cent
amount,e.g.,
0.50 when I want .50 in the cell. I am using Microsoft Excel 2000. I want to
prevent this from happening.

Select the cell(s) and Format|Cells|Custom:
type: .00

Thanks for the help; however, thinking this is what you meant (for some
reason, my brain disregarded the "type" part of your message), I chose #.00
(near the bottom of the list). It worked; however, I did not try to type in
the .00 to see how it works. I will try it if I have problems with my current
choice.
