Default 2007 Excel Pivot Tables - turn off subtotals

Is they a way of turning off the "Subtotals" in columns and rows from the
start of creating the pivot table? In my Excel the option is greyed out under
Pivot Table OptionsTables & Filters .

Currently the only way I can find too turn them of is individually as I add
the column or row to the pivot table.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Select a cell in the PivotTable
On the Ribbon, in the Design tab of the PivotTable Tools, click on
Subtotals.
Choose Do Not Show Subtotals
