Default How to retrieve certain text from string?

Does anyone know how to retrieve certain text from string in excel? for
example,
in cell A1, " 1 abc 18 21", I would like to retrieve the value of 1
in B1, and 18 in C1 without including any space. Does anyone have any
suggestion?
Thank you in advance
Eric

You could use Data|Text to columns.
Delimited by space
and check the Treat consecutive delimiters as one

Why not try starting from the "Data" menu, and see whether you can work it
out from there?

To Eric - I read an older note of yours in a different place about a
sound problem - sound turning itself off mysteriously. I've been having
this sound problem. A full Norton Ghost restore fixed it for a few
days. I need to be able to get the sound back easier. On
Windows XP I don't see windows sound in the system tools. Any info?
thanks
