Default "E" Scientific Notation

Two ways:

1) Format the cell as text.
2) Put an apostrophe to the left of the text string. This apostropher will
appear in the formula bar, but not in the cell itself.

When I try to enter the code 5E123 excel assumes that I am entering
scientific notation, and it wont allow me to enter this. How can I?
