Default tracking changes on a protected worksheet

I have some worksheets on which some of the cells are protected and others
are not as the user will be changing them. I would like to be able to track
all changes on a separate sheet. But when protection is turned on when I go
to the menu for track changes everything is greyed out. Is there a way
around this.
