Default updating linked data

Hi! I have two workbooks. One is the source of the data and the other is a
summary of the data. Each month, new numbers are calculated and this where
I'm having a problem. I have cells in the summary workbook linked to data
within the source. Each month has it's own source workbook and therefore,
the cells containing the link paths need to changed. There is a macro that
does this. The formulas are copied and pasted just fine, but the data does
not update until the source workbook is opened. This is fine in Excel 2002,
but in 2003, for some reason the data from one of the source workbooks does
not update. Why would this happen?

Is this a good way to make changes to my summary workbook? For example,
would it be better to have all workbooks open when making changes of this
type? Or is the a way to update the data without having to open the source
workbook?
