Hi i have a sheet with 600 numbers in column A, what i want to do is to be
able to search for a number in column A from a different sheet and place a
name by that number in column B. Hope you can help

Look at Vlookup in help.
do you want the name put in column B in the first or second sheet?

sheet 1, and i want it to remain there even when its removed from sheet 2

sheet 1, i want it to remain in sheet 1, even when i remove it from sheet 2

will need to use a macro
