Default Sheet protection AND custom views

I've got a worksheet with custom views set up. I need to protect certain
columns (ideally this would be different columns for each view) but once
protection is applied I get a message saying "not all view settings could be
applied". Will my views be OK? Is it the print settings that cannot be
applied? Is there a way around this??
