Default Merge option is not available. How to undo merge in this case?

By mistake some of the cells in my worksheet got merged. Now when i am trying
tio unmerge them, the option is not available (Is in grey and nothing happens
when i click on it)

I tried all means and methods but am unable to do anything.

Please help. Its urgent

Hi Gauri,

The main causes of this are either if the workbook is a) Shared or b) has
protection enabled.

If it is Shared then [Shared] will be shown in the blue bar at the very top
of the workbook or if protection is enabled then allot of the other
functions in the menu bars will also be disabled.
