Default saving to older version of excel

Every time I try to save an Excel 97 file, I get the message "This file was
created using a later version of Excel" and I get options on how to save to
new or old formats. I've done it both ways and I *continue* to receive that
same damned message! I've also copied and pasted all the formulas and values
into a new sheet and I still get the message! What do I have to do?! What is
the problem here?

Thanks in advance,
Jim
