Default default template at startup

I keep three files in my XLStart folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

book.xlt
sheet.xlt
personal.xla

Each time I open excel by double clicking on a file name in windows explorer,
only that file opens.

If I start excel via a shortcut, personal.xla opens (hidden) and a new workbook
based on book.xlt is created.

What's the name of your template? (and do you want to use that template for the
basis of new workbooks?)

and do you have anything else in XLStart--be sure to check for multiple
locations of XLStart, too.

Hi,

I created a template and saved it in the XLSTART folder, so that it would
open every time I started Excel. That turned out to be annoying because
usually when I start Excel I want to work on an existing document rather than
start a new one, so I have to close the Book1 workbook every time.

My question is, where should I move the template to (instead of the XLSTART
folder) so that it is still the default template used if I start a new
workbook, but so that it does not open on startup?

Thanks.
