You need to get software from Adobe which creates PDFs (not just reads them).

There may be free PDF writers available, which can be found via a google
search. MSFT doesn't build PDF-creation capabilities into its office
software (though this is supposed to change with office 2007).

Any time you've seen a toolbar in an office application which lets you
create PDFs, it has been a 3rd party add-in.

If all you want is a read-only file, you can save it as a tif file using the
Microsoft Office Document Imaging program (MODI). The MODI should come with
your Office Pro XP.

I use a free printer driver from http://primopdf.com

But David McRitchie has lots of notes (including other free pdf generators):

Assuming you don't have Adobe Acrobat

I have had success with the free file downloads and instructions for use here
at Dale Nurden's site.

http://www.rcis.co.za/dale/info/pdfguide.htm

Saves first to single *.ps file which is then converted to *.pdf

Returns one PDF file from multiple sheets.

See also David McRitchie's site for alternatives to the above.
