Default How to apply same format of referenced cell in Excel

Would wish to use more than the maximum of 3 (extendable to a virtual 4...)
conditions for conditional formatting for buidling a certain application.
Application needs to change the color of a cell, based on its value (need to
use at least some 10 different colors). It would be handy by using a drop
down list, to use the formats of the cells in the drop-down list, but this
doesn't work, of course. Is there alternatively a way of referencing to a
cell and get the format of that cell referenced to in the cell referencing
out? I am an experienced/advanced user but can't find a way around this.
