Default Can't open Excel Files

Hello everybody.
This is my problem...

If I try to open an Excel file from the 'mydocuments' folder a message
comes up saying "The document doesn't have a corressponding
application. Check the libraries" or smth like that. Instead, if I open
the Excel Application and then try to open the Excel file from in
there, the workbook opens just fine!!!

Million Thanks , Anna

This was an answer I found just a few minutes ago from Dave Peterson on 7/16/06
I could not open any excel files from the browser, the first suggestion did
it for me
(thanks Dave)

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

--- or ---

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.
