Default Excel selection issues

User accesses any Excel document that he needs to work on, and at any point
in time, the application will stop responding correctly - e.g. the mouse will
start highlighting cells but the user cannot de-select them, and it will stay
focused on Excel so that user cannot access other apps etc.. Also, when he
reboots, this doesn't resolve the problem - Excel apparently restores the
file at launch and user has the same problems as before the reboot.
We have been unable to find a fix for this issue, any help would be
massively appreciated

I take it you have checked out the mouse for mouse problems? (low batteries
if it is digital cordless, other possible mouse malfunctions?)

I am getting the same problem where a user opens documents and the cells are
continuously selected. The mouse is configured correctly and Office SP2 is
installed. Does anyone have any answers to this as it is really causing
problems.

Restarting the computer seemed to temporarily resolve the problem. Could
anyone who knows about this issue post some comments on why this happens?

One thing that I noticed about this particular document is that it contained
cell references to another workbook which was not located at the path. Could
this be causing the problem in Excel. I couldn't recreate the problem myself
when opening the files from my computer.

Do you see "EXT" on the status bar?

If so, hit F8 key to get out of extended mode.

If using a wheelie mouse, try tapping the roller up and down a few times.

This was similar to what you described only the + icon would change back to
the normal pointer icon when moved to the menu bars.

This occured on someone elses machine so I haven't been able to verify
whether "EXT" was displayed. I will look out for this in the future.
