Default Excel hangs when remove some cells

I´m using Excel 2000 and 2003.
I need remove some cells/raws .
When I click in Edit/Remove (Delete) excel hangs
allocating 99% of CPU.

Any ideas?

If this happens with both versions of Excel, I would look to my OS and its
allocation of resources.
