Default excel 2003 formatting toolbar

whenever i use my formatting toolbar (bold, font, color etc.) i now get an
error report request and a recovery file is added to the original file.

Just a guess.

I would change printers (or install a new printer driver). If that doesn't
work, maybe it's time to get new video drivers???

i am not trying to print. just changing the way cells are formatted.

Yep.

But excel/windows uses your printer driver to determine how things should look
on the screen.
