I can see text in the formula bar, but not in the cell.
 

There are no words showing in the cells, yet they show in the formula bar.

Maybe the text and the background are the same colour ? White perhaps ?

Select all the text in the sheet and choose automatic for the font colour.

Ctrl-A

Format | Cells... | Font tab | Colour: Automatic
