Default Excel template folder

I am working in Excel 2002. I would like to create a template folder for a
certain department, so that only that department sees the folder tab for
those specific templates under File, New. The templates would reside in a
shared folder on a network drive. In Word, I can set the Workgroup Template
folder under File, Options. Is there any equivalent process in Excel?

TIA,

Ricki

Yes, there is an equivalent in XL ... BUT ... you have XL02, and there's a
bug in that version in the procedure for doing this the *easy* way.

There are other ways though!

Couple of questions first.
Are you *already* using the MS Office workgroups template folder for *both*
this "special" department and the rest of the company?

Is this "special" department to have this 'special' templates folder in
*addition* to what all the rest of the company is using for templates?
What I mean here is, might this 'special' templates folder be used by the
"special" department in *place of* what the rest of the company is using?

Post back with answers to these questions plus anything else you might think
of to clarify your company's template configuration, so that the easiest and
simplest approach can be recommended.

Hi Rag,

Thanks for the response.

This is a large company using various templates for all departments and
special extra templates for one department. When File, New is accessed, I
would like to have all the templates available as well as an extra tab for
the special department templates that only that department will see and
access. Thanks again,

Ricki

Default Excel template folder

The client I am working with would like the following:
We want when using File/New for it to see a workgroup folder on a network
drive. We do not want a separate tab within the current templates on the C:
drive like 1033 or Buisness Planner Templates. We want it to pick up a
template folder location from a network drive location.

Thanks,
Ricki

You haven't answered my question on whether or not you're *currently* using
the MS Office workgroup templates file location in Word.

It sounds to me that you're *not* familiar with the exact template
networking configuration of your client.

I'm no really that good of a typist to describe all the possibilities that
could be used to network your templates in the different modes you're
looking for.

Without knowing what they're using now, any suggestion on my part could
*compromise* their present situation.

Here's a link to an old post which describes networking templates using the
MS Office Workgroup templates file.
It describes ways of creating additional tabs in the <File <New folder.

Post back with *specific* questions.
