Default Strange letters appearing in Excel 97

I am using Excel 97 with Windows Xp. When opening some
workbooks the following appears in a cell
[pn":DcmnsadStig\e\yDcmnsRxEclWgsWg okxs) which must be
deleted before I can do any work. Any ideas?
