Default filter with formula

I'd like to set an auto filter that will filter out any data with a date
greater than today.

What I'm looking for is a way to set the auto-filter to:
"Column data" is greater than =today()

But I can't seem to get it to work....
Anyway to filter dates with an =today() formula?
