Default how to retain leading zeros i.e. 00001 instead of 1

I need to set up a spreadsheet for a mail merge, so that it prints 00001,
but of course it defaults to 1. How do I show the 0s?

Use a custom format of 00000.

Does this help?

There's an article on the Microsoft web site that might help you:

Answer Box: Numbers don't merge right in Word

And if you prefer the old Mail Merge helper, Word MVP Suzanne Barnhill
has instructions he

about half way down the page.
