Default custom section of filter list?

When yo have an autofilter on a list of dates set in the following format:
yy-mmm-dd and you select the "custom" uption from the drop down menu, it ony
recognizes the date as dd-mm-yy. How do I make this "custom" section of the
filter list recognize my date format?

I ahve already adjusted the regional settings accordingly and changed the
sell format to custom: yy-mmm-dd.

Please advise.

Thanks
