Default Excel Worksheet in Word

Does anyone have any experience of inserting excel worksheets into Word
docs and then copying and pasting cell data/formulas using paste
special - I have tried this and although it works fine on first try, it
quickly becomes unstable, particularly if it is an already created
worksheet. What tends to happen is that the spreadsheet to which the
formula has been pasted just stops working and/or the document and
cursor starts to flash and message appears saying that the program
cannot handle the data - I have tried this on different pc's and the
same thing happens - is it that this function is just not particularly
reliable or is there a better way of communicating across spreadsheets
in Word that could be used?
