Default Multiple formatting in text cell blank it out!

I have a sheet with lots of cells formatted as text. Some of these
cells have several types of formatting applied to the text within i.e.
a date in italic. If you open this sheet on one particular machine any
cell that has more than one type of formatting displays blank. If you
highlight the cell you can see its contents in the formula bar but not
in cell itself. I have opened the same sheet on another computer and it
displays absolutely fine.

Given the last point above is there some setting or option that is
causing this very strange behaviour?!

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Tom.
