Formulas not calculating
This is a problem that has occurred on and off for me and I am not sure why. Sometimes when I enter a formula into a cell, the formula shows up as the text instead of the anticipated answer. For example, if I have 9 in cell A1 and I type =A1+10 into cell B1, B1 will show =A1+10 as the answer instead of 19. Any ideas why it sometimes works this way? Thanks. -- bullwinkle55423 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bullwinkle55423's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=33574 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=566140 |

In these cases, your cell was formatted as text before you entered the formula. Formatting afterwards doesn't help.
Format the cell as general or Number and RE-ENTER the formula (F2, ENTER) -- Kind regards, Niek Otten Microsoft MVP - Excel "bullwinkle55423" <bullwinkle55423.2bo6at_1154113807.8079@excelfor um-nospam.com wrote in message news:bullwinkle55423.2bo6at_1154113807.8079@excelf orum-nospam.com... | | This is a problem that has occurred on and off for me and I am not sure | why. | | Sometimes when I enter a formula into a cell, the formula shows up as | the text instead of the anticipated answer. | | For example, if I have 9 in cell A1 and I type =A1+10 into cell B1, B1 | will show =A1+10 as the answer instead of 19. | | Any ideas why it sometimes works this way? | | Thanks. | | | -- | bullwinkle55423 | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | bullwinkle55423's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=33574 | View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=566140 | |
