Default Calculating cells cost hours

Dear Excel(lent) users,

I have a problem with a particular file. The content of this file is 12 MB,
which might be the problem.

When I want to change a formula or make a new one it takes minutes to
calculate the cells. If i take a blank file and make the same formula it is a
matter of seconds.

What do I need to do, to make sure that the formula's and calculations take
no more than a matter of seconds??

Please this is taking my joy away !!

Thanks for your help !

You may have a big job. You need to examine the file and see where the
time-consuming calculations are and change the to be less process intensive.
This is not a quick-fix matter, and impossible for us to say from a
distance.

Can I send the file to u?

It has 8 (out of ten) tabs in which calculations are made based on one tab
which contains Columns A through AE. In these columns I have entered mainly
data, but also some minor calculations and countif statements.

No, you can't. I do not have time to try and make a 12Mb file more
efficient, I have to earn a living.

TURN OFF AUTO CALCULATE WHILE YOU ARE AMENDING FORMULAS, but remember to
turn it back on before you use your spreadsheet.
