I am taking a statistics class and am doing my homework in Excel. The
teacher want us to show our work and I am trying to locate the X bar symbol
(X with a line on top of it) or create it. In Word there is a formula
({eq\0(x,-)}. Is there something in Excel that works?

Use the equation editor.

you may need to install it, add-remove programs, microsoft office,
change.
then you need to go into detailed optioins (depending on your version
of office this will be worded differently)

it's a part of the office tools menu path. Make sure you choose run
from hard drive

then in excel/word/whatever insert-object-microsoft equation 3.0

there's all kinds of neat things if you're doing statistics

If you do not want to use the MS Equation editor, there are some alternatives:

xbar is Alt-0214 in the Math Ext font from
http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/wpdos/wptoword.html

xbar is Alt-0120 in the MS Reference 1 font

I downloaded the equation editor and your right, it does provide some cool
statistic stuff. I'm going to share with my class and maybe gain some extra
points. Thanks!
