Default get edit mode on data lines in chart wizard

Using the chart wizard, hitting icon NEXT, picking tab page SERIES, I am
trying to edit the Values: line of data. I can get into the edit mode by left
click'ing the line. What I can not do is move around the line like in a word
prosser. When I use the right and left arrows to move the cursor it does
funny things. I just want to manually edit the line. Is there a trick to get
it into edit mode?
