Default PivotTable Functions

I have been searching to find a way to use statistical functions in a
pivot table. I have several very fine books one of which is MS Data Analysis
and Business Modeling; A Complete Guide to Pivot Tables: A Visual Approach.
But have not been able to find what I need there or on the net, forums, etc.

Does anyone know of a source that would demonstrate creating calculated
fields
such as =Median(Ratio) and produce the actual Median for a given group and
not the Sum, Average, Count... of Median. ARGH!

TIA
