Default Can an address list be alphabetized in excel?

I am attempting to build an Excel spreadsheet database of address, and I'm
wondering if I can just input the names and address, and have Excel
automatically alphabetize them for me. I've trie the SORT feature (from
A-Z), but this is not working for me.

"not working" isn't a very good description of the problem.
What values did you have in the cells? What order did it give when you
sorted? What order did you expect?

Did you select the range of cells, including the relevant rows and columns,
before you asked Excel to sort?
