Default How to make chart columns thicker

Hi
I am using excel 2007. I am trying to create a chart with 20 weeks in
the x axis. The chart type is Column, clustered column. The chart
displays two lots of data.

The problem is, the columns are displayed as very thin, in fact
they're little more than lines, yet there is a lot of room on the
chart for them to be much thicker.

How do I make the columns thicker? The chart just looks daft at the
moment.

Thanks for any help

Colin

Thumbs up Answer: How to make chart columns thicker

Hi Colin,

To make the columns thicker in your chart, you can follow these steps:
  1. Click on any column in your chart to select the data series.
  2. Right-click on the selected column and choose "Format Data Series" from the context menu.
  3. In the "Format Data Series" pane that appears on the right-hand side of the screen, go to the "Series Options" tab.
  4. Under "Series Options", you should see a slider labeled "Gap Width". This controls the spacing between the columns in your chart. By default, it is set to 150%, which can make the columns look very thin. Try reducing this value to make the columns wider. You can experiment with different values until you find the one that looks best for your chart.
  5. You can also adjust the width of the columns manually by entering a value in the "Series Width" field. This value is measured in points, with 1 point equal to 1/72 of an inch. Again, you can experiment with different values until you find the one that looks best for your chart.

Default How to make chart columns thicker

Ok, brain in gear now, I've worked out what was wrong. The problem was
that the x-axes was recognising the data as a date. I told it that it
was text by going into Layout / axes / horizontal axes / more options,
and it works fine now.

Thanks

Hi Colin,

Right-click the series, select Format Data Series...
Make the gap width smaller using the slider.
